Tour Day 6 Walls Instead Of Fabric... Wierd June 30 2010

Well the long day yesterday paid itself off today because as we speak right now I am nice and cozy in a hostel and it is only 3p.m. Even better is the fact I get a nice warm shower and to do some laundry. All good things must come to an end however. That end will be very soon a.k.a. tomorrow when we have to ride 140k including Rodgers pass into golden.

Today was hard because the mind and body were on two different levels. My mind was looking ahead and going o that is not so steep it almost looks flat in fact. My body on the other hand told me Evan this is an uphill with a headwind slow this bus down. I think that is one of the most interesting things I have discovered thus far. When u look up for a long time it looks flat then flat looks down. Or maybe I am just dehydrated and loosing my mind.

Even through loosing my mind I could tell that the scenery was beautiful. Unfortunately I did not take any pictures as we got dumped with raid so I scrambled to get all my gear on; then it stopped raining so every time I got ahead (when I would usually take a photo) I had to strip a layer off to prevent myself from sweating like a beaver.

Once we got into revelstoke we stopped in at the visitor centre. Here is where they tell us a campsite is $29 per tent. So instead we went to a hostel get free laundry and shower facilities all included in my negotiated price of $70. Speaking of money my budget was actually pretty darn close. I am a little above my goal right now but that will change soon.

One thing I have noticed as well is in the small towns like Revelstoke where there is a local bike shop 90% of people ride quality bikes. It is kind of cool to see a town without a super cycle. Where as in most other small towns there is no bike shop so all you see is mass merchant bikes. I am not sure what to read into this but I just found it very interesting.

On the fundraising note through thinking about it I defiantly did not spend enough time beforehand getting the hype behind the trip so I am trying to make up for that right now through talking to everyone that I meet. I would appreciate that anyone who reads the blog and enjoys the adventure spread the word and lets make this happen.

Anyways I must go for a stroll or maybe even shave. I have not 100% committed to this whole shaving thing yet however. I will update you tomorrow. As well I uploaded the first batch of pictures onto my facebook page so if you don’t have me as a friend add me in order to view them.

Tour Day 5 Highway 1 Bound On A Rest Day June 29 2010

This is the first day that we got to sleep in because no one wanted to wake at our regular 5am time. Instead we slept until 5:30 woooo. It was a good day because my legs felt normal (minus the mosquito bites) for the first time since the day I left.

The first 40k out of Kelowna and into Vernon were beautiful. Nice rolling hills beautiful blue water that near the edges turned green and a nice wide shoulder for the most part made a big difference as well.

When we got to Vernon I had to do more grocery shopping because I am eating more then I thought I would. This time I got my regular stuff (pasta, breakfast stuff, etc) plus a lot of beans in case of emergency, or if I have to scare any bears off because I don’t have a bear scare.

We hit our destination of Enderby early and were ahead of schedule for our rest day. So with rest in mind be decided to put on the extra 40k to Sicamous. Along the way I saw something very strange. I have seen goats on a rood before and that was this man has put goats on a sign, which is even weirder. I must admit it was pretty cool though.

I must say I am floored by the houseboat capital of bc the lake is pristine which is why we wanted to camp on it, but unfortunately no camp ground around any more in order to make room for more condos. On the plus side we were forced to pass that target and hit the trans Canada for a few km’s to get to our site. Now again campsites are odd because people don’t know there own prices. We ask one guy he says $25 for all three, the next guy says $25 for each tent. At that point I said hold the phone bud that is $75 for one night give me a break I can rent a cheap motel for less. I eventually got him down to $40 but that still is not $25 but c’est la vie.

If you ever wonder what I think about on the bike this is what was on my mind for most of the day today. Do blind people dream? If so is it just sounds? Is that not called music? So when they hear music do they think they are sleeping? How does it all work? I then contemplated thinking about the deaf but I will save that for another day.

As a side note I find that being so close to Oliver and Charles is giving me more respect for Quebec. I mean that’s one heck of an upbringing to make your son this passionate about biking to want to do it right out of high school. As well Oliver is a monster on the bike. He climbs like a young Jan Ulrich while I sit in back like Bradley Wiggins waiting for my one hill to come first on. Speaking of pro guys we saw one today. We were on the flats doing about 30k/hr (a rare speed in BC) when a guy in all garmin gear on a team issue bike passes us like we are standing still. My guess is it was Tyler ferrah (spelt it wrong). Weird what a small world it is. Remember if life is worth living its worth recording. Especially if you are recording it in a smelly bathroom trying to charge all your gear.

Tour Day 4 Welcome To The Rolling Rockies June 28 2010

Last night after I updated my blog I thought I would be smart and video call my mom via skype and my web cam. Then the web cam stand broke, but if that was not enough the computer did not recognize the device and I needed the install disc again. So that failed epically but what can you do I guess I am stuck to good old-fashioned emails or phone calls to everyone.

The day started off beautiful mostly because we got out of that sketchy town in a jiffy (+1 awesome point for using jiffy in a sentence). It was like a wildlife refuge mixed with beautiful roads. In the space of one hour we saw goats, badgers, the biggest hawks nest I have every seen, and those pesky mosquitoes.

Don’t let that fool you though this has been the hardest day thus far. First thing is I paced myself for a 100k ride; but that ride turned into 120k very quickly. As well the 97from peach land to Kelowna is just a mess. In some places it has no shoulder, and when it did have a shoulder it was barely wide enough to cover the sides of your bags.

The up and down terrain that the 97 has is just brutal on the body. This is how sheltered I am. When I thought of crossing the rockies I had envidioned one big hill. Not 500 rolling large hills. I say hills because the word mountain just makes me sad to have to ride them. I went through 6liters of water and it still was not enough. My body by the end of the ride was so starved for energy that I was even contemplating buying a $4 energy gel at the bike shop in Kelowna. Thankfully my cheapness came out and I saved myself said money for that moment.

Campsites always confuse me because they charge you in this case $36 for a piece of grass and a toilet. What I find amazing about this campsite is that people live on it. They have Rv’s that are fenced in and all. I know that that is not the lifestyle I want to live. Speaking of lifestyle I have been doing some thinking. This is a really hard lifestyle to live. If you have never done it before you cannot speak to it. For example tonight I was so hungry that I made myself enough pasta for 2 thinking that would be enough. It was not. I then proceeded to drink roughly another litre of water fallowed by a teen burger combo and a pop (I just needed fast… food). Days like today are hard but im sure are what you look back with in future days. The reason I bring this up is I have been re-analyzing my goals. I thin across Canada may be enough to get my adventuring out for now but we will see when that time comes. Remember if life is worth living it is worth recording.

I will spare the campsite rant for another time but to sum it up the site is not worth up to $12 a night but the company is.

As a side note I handed out my first cards to a very nice pair of Danish women in the tent next to us. They were very kind in letting us use their extra space. So if they take me up on the offer and read my blog one day I will thank you again.

Tour Day 3 This Is Bike Touring June 27 2010

It is days like today that make bike touring a thing of beauty. We leave camp at around 7am to hit the road. The first 60k into Princeton were so beautiful you could not even imagine. It also helped that we had amazing weather and our legs felt good. Once in Princeton I had my very first grocery shopping experience. It was so tough deciding what bulk foods I wanted. Why bulk you ask? Because everything else is huge portions that don’t fit anywhere.

Princeton is a funny town because we were the only one under the age of about 60 within eyesight the whole time. Along with that the town was abuzz with hot rods. At first I did not clue in I simply though old people, old cars. After motoring down the road for a little bit we passed more and more of said cars and I came to realizing hey there must be a car show around here somewhere. We never did find it.

Our destination for the day was an even funnier town called Keremos. The reason I say that is because before we even get into town the weather could not make up its mind it was raining one second then sunny the next. Once we enter the town we go to the visitor canter, which is closed. Outside we see a lady who speaks French, which is perfect. We ask here where camping is. She points us down the road so we go there and meet a flock of hippies cracked out one what I can only assume is happiness and mosquitoes. repellent. Right away we turned around and went to the RV site just down the street about 2km away. Here the owner that didn’t even know his own rates maybe for the better greets us. $10 gets me laundry, electricity, and a shower, which will be nice.

I have two pieces of bad news. Foist off do to wifi, and Internet problems I will not be able to update everyday but I will keep a log of everyday and update when I can. Other bad news is I forgot my dang ipod charger. Luckily tomorrow we are hitting a larger town so I should be able to pick one up then if we get in at a good time. All I can say is wow what a day. Remember if life is worth living its worth recording.

Tour Day 2 Hello Manning Park June 26 2010

Well day 2 started at 1:30am because I fell asleep at around 8 last night so my body woke me up. Fortunately I had the rolling stones put me back to sleep for a nice 5am wake up. After beak fest and a quick camp takedown we were off on the road.

It takes some getting used to being loaded and pacing yourself for a long day in the saddle. Case and point today I paced myself like I was on my road bike so when the pass came I was dead half way up. I have not blown up that hard in a long time. My legs did not want to turn over, and my mind was constantly think how far back was that 19km till manning park resort. Fortunately we made the summit in one piece and got some food in us. I have never enjoyed the taste of cow more in my life. This meal I feel had other meaning as well because it was the first time that Charles and Oliver cracked a joke. In my mind solidifying out friendship. Charles says this in French then gets Oliver to translate “did I wake you?” I said, “No you were quiet as a mouse.” To which Oliver says, “Except “he does not have the shape of one.” It was at that time the funniest thing I had ever heard, but that’s what doing 5 hours of hills does to you.

After lunch we were told that the campsite we were going to stay at only had a handful of sites left and they don’t take reservations. So Oliver and I hoped into action and raced down to the site.

Now it is time for a quick rest before I make some supper for myself. Here is looking forward to a rest day in 2 days. Remember if life is worth living it is worth recording.

In other news my left hand has been rendered next to useless I have no explanation why it is not strong or even 50% functional because my right is completely fine. Perhaps a fitting issue?

Tour Day 1 Hope Bound June 25 2010

Well that was a hard day to say the least. I held up well at the boat launch but after that I was a complete ness seeing my friends and family be so emotion and knowing I was not going to see then for so long prompted a pretty good cry sesh on the ride out to mission.

In other news my dad broke my mirror this morning so I was left with no other option but to go into another bike shop. The owner of said bike shop said there are a couple of Quebecois ahead about 20mins at that point I drop the hammer to catch up, which I did not 40minutes later.

This is where I met Charlie (dad) and Oliver (son) really nice guys they don’t speak much English but I don’t speak much French either so it all works out. I find it amazing I can speak any French and the son can have a good conversation. I find that may speak to the education system that each province has.

All in all a great first day. I will be riding with Charlie and Oliver for the next little bit, which will cause a detour through manning park instead of the highway. Lots of love to all of those that were around today to give me a goodbye it really meant a lot, more then these simple words can describe.

The Last Day In Poco June 24 2010

Last night was a little rough. I just laid in bed for about 4 hours not able to fall asleep. The mix of nerves and excitement made for an evil cocktail. I think what finally put me to sleep was my sister yelling across the hall “Why are you not asleep?” “Get the F to bed.” For some reason that was strangely calming.

I guess this is my last day in poco for a while. Wow this place that I call home is soon to be a spec in the distance. The day really was calm for the most part got more last minute stuff done with my banking (sans forgetting to deposit my check great one Evan). As well go my internet situ for the trip figured out for the Canada section at least. The final purchase for touring gear was the cherry on top of it all a rear view mirror. The one thing that I said I would not get because they are so lame I caved and got. I can feel my neck thank me already though so I guess that’s a good thing.

The boys and I went out for a nice long mountain bike ride that was a little frustrating for me because as they hit the huge gaps I had a tough time even getting my butt down the mountain. It was worth it though and it only inspires me to go harder… cue rhianna song here. At the end of it I was in a better mood after rifling up a few steeper climbs and getting myself good and tired. It was a fitting way to say goodbye to a few people that have made my day to day life here a little easier. I have to say thank you. Not only to them but to everyone. This trip has been a dream of mine for so long and you guys are helping me out so much with it is the smallest ways. It may be a little early for a goodbye speech so for now I will say thanks.

After the big ride it put me 2 hours behind schedual so i unfortuantly did not get to hang out with kristy and kristi, but the did stop by so that i could give kristy a nice big hug goodbye. Through this whole leaving thing I am starting to realize that wow people actually care about me. When you go day to day you don’t really think about that kind of stuff but as soon as you say bye everything comes up. The way I like to look at is is yea goodbyes are hard but they make the next hello even better.

Sweat Day June 23 2010

I am still having a hard time believing that it all starts in about 24hrs. I think the fact that I am scrambling trying to get everything organized is not helping the situation at all that’s for sure.

Today the first priority was sleeping in because I am officially on vacation for the year. It was nice not having an alarm to wake up to. Any day you can start off your day by listening to a nice hour of dane cook on the radio is a good day. Once I got my butt out of bed I lounged around in my underwear for a good amount of time before ali finally kicked my butt in gear because she had to get a pedicure and she was my ride. As good as the web series the Atherton project is I had stuff to do.

Kristi met up with me at the salon and we went over to my dads for a quick visit and to pick up some paper work. Her car is officially f’ed. I came home and noticed a huge pudle of something on our driveway, and on the road in front of her dads place the same pile was accumulating. Now I am gross I am not going to beat around the bush on that so when I blow my nose I don’t need a Kleenex because plugging on nose works just as well. Unfortuanly I got some spray on kristi’s car which had hardened and was even more gross to clean off.

After that the sister unit and I did some running around and got most of our ducks in a line. By the end of our running around we were both so hungry that we were sweating like beavers in the car (yes beavers sweat that’s why they live mostly in water durrrrr).

When we got home I finished packing and unpacking 3 times. I am running at max capacity so lets hope I don’t get any more stuff along the way. I have to say a few outside pocket may have been nice. I have no idea why this happens but it does when I pack I sweat. I know that’s two things with seat in them today so you can imagine how awesome I smelt after helping that out even more. That is why at that exact point the family and I went out to the boathouse for a nice last supper. It was ok food but the $19 fish and chips were not as good as the $9 fish and chips just outside in a small shack.

After that we just came home and chilled out as a family and cleaned the house as well as ali’s car. All in all a good night. Remember if life is worth living its worth recording.

Packing Again June 22 2010

Only a few more sleeps then the road shall be mine. One problem is it is supposed to start raining of Friday so please cross everything that can be crossed that the rain holds. Lordy that would be a rough way to start the trip, but I guess you have to hit it at some point so why not the first day right.

The morning started off a little different then a typical Tuesday. Got to sleep in which was a nice change then my mom and I headed down to eagle ridge hospital to get a few more people involved with the trip and have an official send off from the people who are backing me 100%. It was a real confidence boost having so many people tell me that I can do it.

After a good day at work it was time for me to hang up the old shop apron for a year. I felt as if I was a retiring hockey played when I placed it on the counter. That store has been such a large part of making me into who I am today that it was a little hard saying goodbye. One thing I found kind of funny was the fact that the last bike I sold was a trek 820 (treks most entry level bike). The reason I found that funny is because for all of the high end road and mountain bikes I have sold it all returned back to the grass routes trek 820.

After work kristi, kristy and I played some Frisbee and soccer. From how sore my ankle is right now I think my technique may be a little wrong. I am just going to say thank heavens that I stopped playing soccer and switched to biking.

After that I spent the rest of the night trying to pack as much as possible. It took some major reorganizing but I think I managed to get everything covered and sealed watertight. It was actually a lot of work doing inventory on everything then repacking it. I was a little sweaty by the end of it if im honest. I defiantly earned that mcflurry treat. Remember if life is worth living its worth recording.

Done the Hardest Task June 21 2010

So my room is officially a disaster area. I have clothing everywhere which I don’t understand because I have pretty much all my clothing packed. One thing that was kind of a tick off was the fact that my clothing order is not going to come in time which kind of screwed me for shorts but what ca you do. I will just have to make do with what I have for now.

I was a little bit weird today at work and I assume tomorrow will be even worse. It was my last full day today and to be honest the nerves really started to flow. I realize that now I have only a few more sleeps before im out the door.

After work we went for dinner at Boston pizza and got one last horra in which was a pleasant way to say goodbye to everyone. Once I got home it was time to finish the itunes list and get my ipod set up. That took me till about 10 mins ago so I am a little tired of music right now. This new nano is legit. It almost has to many features like why do I need a camera and voice recorder. It is cool don’t get me wrong but its simply bling (I hate myself for using that word). The coolest things are built in radio, and built in speaker so that u don’t have to have the earphone plugged in. Anyways you know the drill. Remember if life is worth living its worth recording.

Carol Of The Meows June 20 2010

Last night I nearly fell asleep at the computer working on this itunes job and got nearly half way done. The bad news is I was only half way done. So I woke up early on my sleep in day to start working on it bright and early. I still don’t know how I woke up because that snooze button was more tempting then ever.

Work was a little weird. It is hard to believe that I only have one more full working day left ahead of me. I mean caps has been such a large part of my life up until now and now it is going to be a memory… for a year at least. Luckily I have not had to say goodbye to any of the staff yet so that a good thing. I have had to say goodbye to a few good customers though which is a little rough because I know how over the years they have made the days a little easier.

After work I had to do a job I have been avoiding. I had to take down the garage that was covering my car last year. That thing was such a pain to put up. I wont forget how miserable I was that night; it was raining, cold, wet and I was working primarily by myself. Today while I was taking it down I got the top off and as soon as that happened I felt a few drops on my face. I though to myself “Not again”, this time is even better because I was wearing a t shirt. Luckily it stopped and help off until mom and mike came to pick the junk up and drive it away in the challenger. Speaking of which that car is the worst for the rear passenger. You have to jump through 5 hoops to get in it.

Once home I wanted to nap but I got back to my itunes job. To show you how crazy I have gone I listened to carol of the meows for 15 mins. The good news is im in the last 1000 songs. Remember if life is worth living its worth recording.

How Do You Spell Hemroid June19 2010

So I have a question for you why so they make hemroid cream and polysporn look the exact same? True story over the past week of trying to heal my cut I have been putting what I thought to be poly sporn on my cut to make it heal faster. So tonight I put it on my cut and leave the tube out and my mom goes “evan why do you have hemroid crème out?” I say “that’s poly sporn”. “Nor That’s hemroid crème”. Well luckily we know now my knee will never get hermoids or at least less noticeable ones.

Other then that my night was spent going through as many of my 6000 songs as possible to pick the few selected for the trip. It is actually a task harder then it sounds. I have no reason why but the song sail away by styxx got a good chuckle out of me tonight. Lets hope that ive picked some songs that will suite my mood on the best days as well as the worst. Remember if life is worth living its worth recording.

The First Goodbye June 18 2010

This is really happening. One week to go and it feels like tomorrow. It is hard to believe that in a weeks time I am going to be leaving this place I call home. After hitting up the pump track after work and dialling my jumping skills (what little I have) I phoned up mia and asked if we could hang out. So I made my way over and we had a chance to do a bit of talking and just relax. By 10:30 though my stomach had got the better of me and I had to head home to make a late dinner.

I found it weird to be saying goodbye to these people that play a big role in my life for such a long time. We hugged and simply said “see you in a year”. On the ride home I was feeling a little weird. I think they call this thing emotion; this is a foreign thing to me. You do not realize how much someone means to you until they are taken away in one form or another. Please help make this trip a success and lets make a difference in our local community. Make our goodbyes on our own terms. Remember if life is worth living it is worth recording.

My First Day Up At Whistler Coud Not Be Better June 17 2010

What an awesome day. I feel like in the space of 12 hours so much has happened. I guess I have the tough job of summing it up into a few paragraphs.

The day started off normal with Cody waking me up with what had to be the loudest fart ever heard, fallowed by my sister calling 3 times which I thought was an alarm so I hit the snooze button. After cracking a window and discovering the amazing ness that is a toilet that has two buttons on it we were set to roll out.

Breakfast was a quick McDonalds stop, which I hear is the best riding food. Even just climbing up to the gondola was a little rough as those 2 sausage mcmuffins settled in nicely. I was pretty nervous about one thing… getting my bike onto the rack that holds the bikes. The first time I panicked and almost lost it but thankful I am awesome and saved it.

I could not tell you what trails we rode in exact order but we rode everything that was open so I was pretty stoked. After 2 runs my nerves had settled and I was getting comfortable with the geometry on kev’s DH bike. If you have never ridden whistler http://www.pinkbike.com/video/139952/ this is what you have to look forward to. I watch that video and it brings back memories from just 8 hours ago. The feeling of nailing your first tabletop is unspeakable. It is so smooth and you have that light bulb go on in your head.

After 2 runs of being stubborn I decided too cave and buy myself some riders goggles which made a world of difference. Not having to squint and cry the whole way down the trail was pretty awesome. I have to say after riding everything my favourite trail as of right now has to be crank it up sans the horrid studder bums in the corners which are getting fixed as I type.

By the end of the ninth run we were ready to call it a day. My biceps (I could not spell it on the computer because I use that word so much) were feeling it almost as much as my hands. I had zero to complain about because it was such a riot. We made a few new friends and were ready to bounce. After saying a quick goodbye to my sister we were off.

I got the lucky passenger seat and got to sleep the whole way back to Vancouver. It was the sweet sound of my neck snapping side to side that woke me up. The drive home from the portion I was awake for was really weird. We were driving and this light on lougheed is red so we stop. We see this guy beside us run the red and go this is weird because the other lights are green so that is supper illegal. Then we hear the guy behind us honk about a minute later for no reason because the light is red. He then proceeds to pass us and run the red. After another light changing we managed to figure out all the lights were working except the one that guided us where we were going.

After that you would think things would go smooth but they didn’t we ran into a flashing red light and more traffic then could be imagined but it was all worth it. We still had an amazing day; I mean you cant ask for more then hanging out with one of your best mates, riding bikes, and jamming out to some good tunes on the ride back. All in all a great weekend adventure. Remember if life is worth living its worth recording.

Whistler June 16 2010

Well this is a slight change in setting. I am blogging not from my comfy desk chair but rather my sleeping bag which is placed on the floor of my sister’s place in whistler. The days started off well because i got plans rolling finally with global news so we will see what comes of that. I managed to pick up kevs bike as well which was awesome because I thought that I was going to have to wait till he got back from school which would have delayed us by a few hours.

Instead we managed to leave on time at 1 sharp. I also did kev a solid for lending me his bike. I replaced all the bolts on the bike as well as put in a new derailleur cable. We got up to whistler in pretty good time because traffic was really light. My guess is that not many other people have wed and Thurs off and think to themselves “hey lets go mountain biking”.

Once we got here it was actually pretty chill. We went to earls for dinner and had to wait over an hour to get food which was more then awesome. As well we manged to get the only male server in the joint. Now i am no sexist but lets be honest earls has a lot of good looking women and if I had the choice I would like my food served by a woman rather then a zitty man.

Other then that we went boating and enjoyed some nice hot chocolate. Remember if life is worth living its worth recording.

Chill Friday a.k.a. Tuesday June 15 2010

Only one more Tuesday left to go. It always seems like these days seem to drag on. It was probly because I am looking forward to riding whistler instead of having my goal set on the end of the day.

Once I got home I got a phone call from Kristi seeing if I wanted to come over. Of course I said yes. So Kristi, marshel and I spent the night and just hung out. It was a pretty relaxing night which is a pleasant change of pace. Not gunna lie though I am really hungry and not focusing on typing. Remember if life is worth living its worth recording.

Amazing Ride June 14 2010

What an amazing day. 6pm came around faily quickly and I was out of that door like a cannon because I saw a red civic in the parking lot. That could only mean one thing a good ride with kev. It had been a while since we rode last so I was pretty stoked. Even moreso that we were going to ride a trail called triple drown up burke. For those who don’t know it is the highest mountain biking trail up burke and has been here since the late 90’s.

Once we got up to the gun club and parked we unloaded the bikes. I am going to miss the smell of kev’s car after a hard run up that hill. Once we got riding my body realized that it had worked 8.5 hours beforehand. It took us only 60 mins to get to the trail head which is pretty dang good. After a quick pee we were set to go for a good half hour of downhill all mountain action.

Triple crown was sick. I am so glad I got a chance to ride it in ideal conditions before I leave. The trailed were nice and tacky while the roots were nice and dry. Speaking of roots they were off the hook. It is hard to describe the feeling that you get when you have the bike pinned as fast as you can go over a rooty section when you are simply guiding the bike and not steering it. You feel the bike under you going from side to side it is simply amazing.

About halfway down I realized that my fork was semi locked out so with that fully opened the rest of the ride was cake. I was going faster then I have gone before. I was keeping up to kev on the lower sections… mind you he was not going 110%. I hit multiple stunts for the first time which really get you stoked on life.

At the end of the ride when we got back up to the car we both had the same feeling “what a ride”. We both remarked that it was our best ride ever. Needless to say it has me a little nervously excited for whistler on Wednesday and Thursday with cody. I will go as fast as I can. I am determined to clear 8% of the table tops and not be the pillion that everyone is passing. I mean if a tourist can come and get on a dh bike I should at least be a leg up on them I think. Fingers crossed. Remember if life is worth living its worth recording.

Mark Walberg? June 13 2010

Well that was a waste of a day. I go home and was a little tired and not really in the mood to be social. So I did my duty and was social with pat and ken for a little it but I think everyone could tell I was a little testy so I decided to go for a nap. I woke up 2.5 hours later to find they were gone and I did not even say goodbye. Now I feel like a jerk because I was a jerk. What can one do in this situation say sorry? What if im over thinking the situation and they did not read into it as far as I did? Do I say nothing and risk it?

After I woke up I watched shooter with mark walberg who always reminds me of vanilla ice for some reason. Wasn’t one of those crappy actors a crappy singer as well? Then on the vanilla ice token I could not live without another viewing of step brothers. That took me to midnight and now I must sleep or else I will be bagged tomorrow.

Biking And A Birthday June 12 2010

It is always nice to wake up knowing u have to rip a Band-Aid off of a hairy leg. After ripping off my Band-Aid I was greeted by a nice huge scab. I am just going to throw this out there; we have been alive for thousands of years. Long enough to evolve into a creature that has legs. Yet our bodies had not developed a better way to regenerate skin. I know that this is wrong but I was telling kev that when I envision skin regenerating I envision a construction site. Tower cranes, managers, cement truck all working to create new skin.

Anyways after work the crew went up and did a couple laps up burke before we went to Kelly’s 50th birthday party. Everyone else either got changed or showed up in spiffy clothing except Cody and I who wore our muddy shoes and short with our work shirts as tops. Yea it was a little greasy, especially when Eric comes in in leather shoes and a vest but hey we rocked it. Got some pretty good photos biking that I was happy with as well as destroyed at foosball… not really I lost both rounds.

To wind down the night listened to a little bit of underground rap http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEtq7WQXEfM now its off to bed. Remember if life is worth living its worth recording.

Wicked Driveway Bail June 11 2010

Here is my life summed up in one single event. Kristi pulls up to the driveway because she wanted me to come over tonight. I proceed to put my boots on thinking I don’t want to spend the extra minute to lace up the converse’s. I proceed to shut the garage and jump over the beam to let the garage shut. Using the then gathered speed I proceed to run towards the passenger side of the car. At that time I caught my toe on the lip of the cement and ate it hard on the driveway. I was doing roughly mach 1.32 when this all happened. I then roll over into the wet grass, which made it even more awesome. Kristi laughing her butt of in the car then opens the door and says “are you ok”. In response I say “ouch that really hurt:. To which she continues to laugh at. The funniest part was when I was in mid flight all I could think about is http://www.youtube.com/user/collegehumor#p/u/6/k304wFc17fo . If you ask why I have no answer it is simply how my mind works. I did not want to go into the house to get a banfage because I know mike would have just laughed at me as much as kristi did. Instead of walking down that road I pulled myself into kristi's car and jsut started to laugh as I said "ooowwwwww". In all honesty it was a pretty funny situation; I definatly got 3 feet of air time.

So once we get to kristi’s we try to bandage up my really scrapped knee that was bleeding all over the place, as well and my hand and elbow. Turns out that nachos actually heal wounds. After nachos marshel, krsti, and I enjoyed a nice night and watched stepbrothers, which is always classic.

That was really the highlight of the day in all honesty. If that did not happen I would have managed to blog about laundry and my hatred for finding and folding socks. As well how much my feet loath me when I put on mismatching socks. I guess we will save that rant for another day. Remember if life is worth living its worth recording.

Long Non-Sunday June 10 2010

Well that was one busy day. It is 11:30 right now and I am so tired that I do not even want to type if I am honest, but here we go.

Woke up at dads house which means only one thing. PANCAKES! After letting a full 8 pancakes settle for all of 2 minutes we were off to go talk to a few people about the trip and apply for a credit car. I now have a way to either rent a hotel, or pay for stuff in the states. Two things that may be crucial.

After that cody, his roommate jeff and I went up to burke in the pouring rain and got super muddy. It was a really good ride until I got home and realized that I had his keys to his car. So at that point I was muddy as all heck, soaking wet, and did not want to ride back up that hill. Here is were best fried Kristi comes into the picture. She is so nice as to drive me up to the top and give cody back his keys. I felt kinda bad though because she would not let me treat her to something for doing me a favour.

I did however get my way later on in the night when we went out to the driving range and bought for the both of us. I have to say I am the worst person at golf ever. Tonight for example I sliced the ball so hard that it rebounded off the barrier wall then proceeded to almost knock me and the lady net to me out. All in all a fantastic learning session. Remember if life is worth living its worth recording.

Iron DQ June 9 2010

I forgot to mention this yesterday. I was commuting to work and drafting off this van in front of me. Now I am keeping up with traffic not doing any harm and leaving enough space if I had to make an emergency stop. So I stop at the light and this man rolls down his window and says to me “ride the bike like a while man”. Now I was really confused by this and all I could think of saying to this man was “thank you”. He then pealed out and lift me in a plume of diesel exhaust. Now biking is something that I have never seen or heard any stereotypes for.

Today started out with a bang because I decided to wake up at 7 am and head to work to do a wheel true on my touring bike. The wheel true then turned into cable replacement which quickly became brake replacement then pretty much an overhaul. All in all it took about three hours and a few cuss words.

After I went home to pick up my mountain bike to go for a ride with cody. So we meet at the shop (I swear I spend more time there on my days off then I do when I work) and cody tells me that a bolt on his fork broke and he could not go for a ride. Instead I decided to go to the pump track thinking I would stay clean. Instead I got supper muddy and did not get a good ride in. On the plus side tomorrow should be jam packed with action which I will save for then.

After getting cleaned up I went out with dad for the first time in a while. We went to the fish and chip place that was selling illegal fish from the natives and funnily now the prices have a big red number over the painted numbers on the windows. The number is now higher then it was before of course. Still I am not complaining because it filled my stomach and got me ready for the movie.

Iron man 2 was what I expected typical cheesy marvel at its finest. It had a few laughs and a few good action points. The hot girl was hot, and the bad guy was a bad guy. All in all a good classic formula. To close out the night we treated ourselves to DQ and were greeted by the dumbest person I have personally ever met. I now it is bad of me to judge but he gave off a smell of dumb. We put in our order and then decided to change a few things. He has to call the manger and still gets it wrong. He then takes 2.75 minutes to fix said order and tell us the total. Before that he confirms the order by asking “what wa wa wa did you get man”. We then give him money and he clicks the wrong button and skips the part where the computer tells him the amount of change to give us. This is where the wheels fell off the bus. I do not know what our school system is doing but whatever it did failed for this guy. He forgot the total first off so I had to tell him then the mouth fell open. Right away I knew the change amount but I did not want to make it easy maybe this could be a good learning experience… well it was not. I ended up feeding him the figure after about a minute of stumbling. Anyways that was the night. Remember if life is worth living it is worth recording.

Music So Sick I Almost Threw Up June 8 2010

Happy days! Cue theme song for happy days. Tuesday is always a good day because it is always the day that treat myself to scones. Scones always make me super hyper and always super happy with customers. I am too cheap to get scones every day though, and I think my heart thanks me for it. Something about banana, chocolate, bread, and awesome is the best thing ever. Awesome is an ingredient used in many sweats and often main course dinners that cost upwards of 20 dollars a plate. I don’t get much awesome L.

Ok that was a little weird Microsoft word now recognized the sad face and makes it a legit sad face. I find that an interesting commentary on the way our language is going. Maybe soon we will communicate all in symbols like cave me. You know what they say the past always repeats itself.

I am stoked for the weekend and it shows in my music choice for the night. It is this amazing new genre called glitch hop which I can not believe I had not heard before. It is super edgy but defiantly suits my frame of mind at this moment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9vn6I17yWw

Hey in other good news the only two crummy days this week are supposed to be Wednesday and Thursday… o wait I think that’s bad news. Well in real good news tomorrow I get the proof of my business cards for the trip so that will be pretty awesome I hope. Happy Tuesday and remember if life is worth living its worth recording.

Midnight Movie June 7 2010

Last night I made the wrong choice of watching saving private ryan which ran till 1 in the morning. Not only was I tired in the morning but my brain was racing trying to get to sleep. It is a stellar movie but maybe not for a midnight showing.

The day went pretty quick. After work I decided to go and hit up the pump track and get my sweat on for a little bit. Just so happened that Mike from the track strolled in after his mountain bike ride so we chatted for a bit and caught up.

The night was pretty tame. To be honest the most exciting thing for me was meatballs for dinner and how awesome my new underwear worked. I know underwear cant really be faulty but these I feel like a cheetah in. Like I could run across Canada. Remember if life is worth living its worth recording.

Lush Hair... Nor Thanks June 6 2010

K I am going to vent here. I am all for a advertising if it is effective. Where I draw the line is when it starts to intrude in what I want to do. Case and point tonight I have no idea why this started to grind my gears but I started to watch a few youtube videos after a nice nap. So I am relaxed feeling well rested and simply want to catch up on some college humour episodes and have a good laugh. Instead I am greeted by evangline lilly from loreal which thanks to the magic of f5 I can skip. Thinking nothing of it I click the related links, which is a vortex of time wasting if you are not familiar with the way youtube, works. The next 5 videos had the same L’Oreal commercial on them. These commercials are not informing me of anything in fact they are making me not want to buy L’Oreal anymore (not that I use it anyways). Why don’t these companies do research on stuff like this. This kind of in your face advertising I realize pays the bills and makes money for companies like youtube. I simply think in L’Oreal’s case it is doing more harm then good. Now that is one opinion of a 18 year old Canadian boy that does not need the new healthy look cream gloss colour. I unfortunately do not need gorgeous glossy colour that’s never dull or fake. On that note as well the hair may not look fake but the commercial is so fake its redic off the carts. If you are going to say that natural never looked so good make the setting one that is natural as well instead of having actors placed in a room that is entirely white with pink highlights. Lets see a female mountain biker coming in from a muddy ride using the product now that sounds a little more natural.

On a side note why is L’Oreal (a cooperation) is in spell check? And why do they make a million hair product but nothing for beards?

Great so now that I am done ranting for the night I can sleep in peace and not be haunted by lush “beautiful” hair. Remember if life is worth living its worth recording.

Frisbee Lesson June 5 2010

It was a nice relaxing day today. First off it was nice to see the sun again that has been a rare thing the past few weeks. As a person who commuted by human power it makes getting around and hanging out with friends so much easier as well. I no longer have to show up in full rain gear and loom like a dingus the entire time.

Got home from work and my allergies starting acting up because I road through a storm of cotton wood. Now instead of using a normal solution like cleariton or something I just decided to go play a game of Frisbee with Vicky right back where the cottonwood storm was. Funny thing is it actually sort of worked because I don’t have itchy eyes anymore; mind you that was probly because I was distracted from rubbing them for 3 hours. Why does it feel so awesome when you rub you eyes? Why cant they make it like a searing pain when u touch sore eyes? Why make it feel nice?

Other then that not a whole lot is new spent most of the night blasting a few tunes. Tonight’s vibe was a little bit of house music coming from a stellar indie band named karton http://www.myspace.com/kartonmusic . Defiantly check them out if you are looking to waste a few minutes. Remember if life is worth living its worth recording.

I Hear 18 Is The New 19 June 4 2010

Horray for business cards that take way to long to make. I don’t understand how it works because when I order printing for my work it takes 4 days max as soon as I become a civilian and have to go to staples it takes 2 weeks but hey they have what I want so I have to put up with it.

I am at a loss how I am going to fund myself in the states without getting powned by service fees and the Canadian dollar. My thinking is don’t put the cart before the horse and get across Canada first. I will jump off that bridge once I get to it. The only thing with not being 19 and having a credit card is I will not even have the option of going to stay at a hotel. If I am having a bad day I have to deal with it in my little tent of emotion. Anchor man reference for the win.

I must be off to prepare for a stellar weekend at the shop. I am not going to complain about the late shift because I got a lot done this morning, and actually got a lot done tonight with Norco as well. Sorry no Bye Bye Bye tonight. Remember if life is worth living its worth recording.

Boy Bands And Biking May 3 2010

Instead of starting at the begging of the day I am going to work from the back. I do not know how this happened but I ended up listening to nsync at the end of the night. I went from Barcelona who is an amazing indie artist then my brain went I need a dose of JT and the boys. Sometimes I wonder about myself. Backstreet or Nysnc?

The day was actually very productive got my car put away for the year in a barn in pitt meadows. Kind of weird you always hear of people finding old cars in barns now I finally see why.

After getting home I phoned kev because the weather was clearing up and we went for a nice long 3 hour ride. We rode message therapy which is a trail we both had not ridden and it was AWSOME. I did not ride any of the stunts but the tech sections were tough enough to make you poop a little but fast enough to cover up any mistakes easy. A couple weird things happened though. Kevs shock blew up so we had to rip the power lines. Now power lines may sound easy but these are a little sketch so much so that I almost had a near bail that could have taken out kev as well. It felt awesome to save it though because it was looking bad it I went down. As well we ran into two guys with MAC bikes and they recognized me so that was pretty cool to know that I have a impact on the riding around here.

When I got back I decided to give the bike a good clean because it saved my but 3 times today so I was super pumped. Got de mudified and ready for what was next which turned out to be a nice long long board sesh. All in all about 8 hours of physical activity so cant really complain. Instead of my regual send off I believe that we must honour for aforementioned nysnc. Bye bye bye.

What Does Cat Poo Taste Like? Apparently Coffee June 2 2010

What an awesome day. Had a solid 12 hour long sleep so I had no excuse to be tired. I woke up and hit the ground running… after a 3 hour warm up. Went to work and bought my spare tire, then over to chapters to get maps. I then came home and proceeded to return the maps and get free ones from bcaa then waste that money on a cargo net that was way to huge. I then unwound the cargo net to try to make it smaller and now it is half a cargo net with a long string also known as a fail net.

The night was actually really relaxing. It was one of those nights that made me think hmmm this is what its like to be young. It started off well when I caught up with one of my old mates from high school. I then proceeded to go for a nice shred on the long board over to courts house. I miss court what a character I don’t think many people get me but she does. I only see her once every few months for very few minutes but those few minutes are always filled with a lot of laughs. The board home was awesome as usual the weather is redic nice. The roads are dry and the air is nice temp. Something about calm streets and street lights are always a nice setting. Remember if life is worth living its worth recording.

P.S. I do not know how this conversation came up but I was talking to someone about Kopi Luwak (cat poo coffee) and I got to asking myself does every cat poo taste like coffee? Please never try to find the answer anybody.

Relaxing Night June 1 2010

Pretty solid start to the weekend. Scones always get you stoked for anything. It is probably the huge amount of awesomeness aka sugar in them. After work corey and I went for a solid xc ride where I tired him out pretty good. Then I came home to make myself some leftovers and relax the night away. Uneventful I know but sometimes that’s the best. Remember if life is worth living its worth recording.
